What are Kennings?

A kenning is a metaphorical compound phrase used in Old Norse and Old English poetry. These poetic expressions replace simple nouns with imaginative two-word descriptions.

TRADITIONAL EXAMPLES:

  • "whale-road" → sea
  • "bone-house" → body
  • "sky-candle" → sun
  • "battle-light" → sword

How to Play

  1. Read the kenning (metaphorical phrase) displayed at the top
  2. Type letters to fill in the answer boxes
  3. Press ENTER to submit your guess
  4. After each guess, letters will be color-coded:
    • Green = correct letter, correct position
    • Yellow = correct letter, wrong position
    • Gray = letter not in word
  5. You have 5 tries per kenning
  6. Complete all 6 daily kennings to finish the challenge!

Scoring

  • ✓ Each kenning starts at 100 points
  • ✓ Lose 20 points for each wrong guess
  • ✓ Build your daily streak by playing each day!
